This is a wonderful start to a spin-off series. For Four Kings fan, it is a treat. The romance between Jack and Fitz is lovely, with some enjoyable date scenes and chemistry. And the larger cast of characters, with all the guys from Four Kings adds so much to the story and to the series. The themes of family and taking care of each other needs that wonderful cast, and it makes the world of this story and these characters feel well-rounded. Their friends/family aren't out there somewhere; they are real and part of their daily lives. And that is such a wonderful thing. The author does a great job of keeping characters consistent in who they are, and the writing is great and definitely Charlie Cochet's style. Another aspect that is kept visible and is appreciated is that these are stories of veterans, and about loving a veteran, and I love that the author keeps reminding us of that. I very much look forward to this new series. There is the usual action-suspense romance combo that Charlie Cochet excels at writing. Enjoy! I am a die hard fan of THIRDS and I loved the Kings, but this add on seemed forced. Jack was to be hot Italian or geek? I did get confused with Joker and Jack quite a bit and I did read the Kings books. Fitz was boring even for a drama queen. I felt he was really flat as a person with limited personality. I thought he was a model based on how "beautiful" he was but turns out he was a hairdresser for the models. That makes no sense to me based on how he has been portrayed in the previous books. I forced myself to finish it and hope that Joker's book is better. However, it is not the worst book I have ever read just in my opinion the author's worst book.
