This is a good continuation from the prior story in the growth of learning the world, the characters and the story. While somewhat predictable/formulaic in delivering on expectations, there's nothing horrible here to detract from what is otherwise a good cultivation series with characters who are likable, if a bit cookie cutter. The biggest challenge here is the author himself, or more importantly, his obviously amateur status and how it reflects in the way he writes. I didn't notice it as much in the first book, although it's definitely there when i go back and read it, but the author struggles with non-sequiturs during conversations and descriptions (not as bad as some i've seen, but a common problem with amateur authors where you can tell they want to jump to the next thing and forget how to properly integrate a good segue from one discussion or action to another). This is somewhat further impacted by his rampant use of every cliche in existence for combat descriptions. You take out the cliche phrases and there's not much there, and sometimes the combat doesn't make much sense because of the use of the cliche's. As if the author is more interested in fitting in the cliche then he is the actual combat scenario.Another issue that crops up is the author's amateur understanding of the English language and his usage of words that are improper or out of place. Astra "glares at Rin nervously" as he leaves the shop. You only glare at someone if you're mad at them, and nothing up to that point would have lead her to be upset. Likewise, if she were to glare, it would be angrily, not nervously. The book has a pattern of this sort of improper word usage where you're not quite sure what the author was trying to say because the words don't match up to the scenario and you're left wondering what the intent was. Is she angry? (glare) or is should worried (nervous). Could go either way because the improper word usage left a conundrum for the reader to decipher. That's never a good thing. The author definitely has room to grow. I plan on being for the ride to see his growth as well as the story. Hopefully they both improve together. Fantastic book, Atlas Kane just keeps on pumping out incredible stories. The book continues the story of Rin as he develops his relationships with the girls and journeys to Tackles the second tower. the book also has some fun twists and is very enjoyable. cant wait for book 3.
